La perla de la montaña
Perla de la Montaña sits in San Juan, a residential neighborhood on the hillside just above Quito’s historic center. From the balcony the city rolls out below you: church domes, tiled roofs, and on clear days the snow cone of Cotopaxi on the horizon.
The apartment is newly built and furnished for living, not for a weekend: two proper bedrooms, two bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen with induction stove, a washer and dryer of your own, and fiber internet fast enough for a full working day.
Morning coffee in the sun on the balcony, ten minutes downhill to the Basílica, and in the evening the city lights switch on beneath you. This is the Quito that locals live in, and after three months it stops feeling like a rental and starts feeling like your street.
Take the full room-by-room tour
A full apartment that works like home, because for a few months it is one.
City panorama, Andes skyline and morning sun.
Stable fiber connection and a dedicated workspace for remote work.
Induction stove, oven, microwave, fridge and everything to cook properly.
Your own, in the apartment, no laundromat runs.
Hot showers for everyone.
Two real bedrooms with quality mattresses and fresh linen.
Move in with a suitcase. Dishes, linen, towels and tools are here.
Private entrance in a gated residential complex.
Fiber internet, a real desk and a kitchen for proper meals. Quito runs on US Eastern time, so calls with New York land in your morning and your evening stays yours.
Families come to Quito for months of treatment. HCAM is 1.2 km away, Metropolitano a twelve-minute taxi, and the second bedroom means the patient sleeps undisturbed.
A sabbatical, a Spanish course, a research trip. Three months is long enough that the market vendors know your face and the steep walk home stops hurting.
A walk through the apartment, room by room.

“Luis met us when we checked in and took us around the neighborhood to point out the best shops and restaurants. He was very kind and helpful.”
The people behind the pearl
The apartment carries Esther’s name for a reason: she and her husband Luis own it, live nearby and look after everything personally. Luis will welcome you, carry your bags up, explain the water heater and, if you let him, walk you through the neighborhood to his favorite shops.
Luis and Esther speak Spanish. For everything else, their son-in-law Sven answers messages in English, German or Spanish, usually within the hour.
San Juan · above the historic center
A local Quiteño neighborhood on the hillside, with the Old Town at your feet.
Good to know: the walk back up is steep, and there is no parking at the building. Taxis are safe, everywhere and cost a couple of dollars, or hop on the bus that stops in front of the door.
